Ron Coleman

Ron Coleman, born in Ontario, Ronald Donavon Coleman is an LA-based singer-songwriter, guitarist, and bassist. He is known primarily for his songwriting skills, and some of his most successful works include “Tired of Toein' the Line" recorded by Rocky Burnette, “Somebody Loses, Somebody Wins” recorded by Rosie Flores, and “Honky Tonk Man” recorded by Lacey J. Dalton.

Throughout the seventies, Coleman played bass with the rock group The Everly Brothers. The duo consisted of Isaac Donald "Don" Everly and Phillip "Phil" Everly, by combining elements of rock and roll, country, and pop, this duo is widely considered the pioneer of country rock. Over time tensions within The Everly Brothers began to run high, and Coleman left the group after Phil Everly smashed his guitar and stormed off stage during a show in 1973.

Coleman decided to form his own group and began looking for country-rock players to play in the San Fernando Valley in California. It was here that Coleman formed the Sundance Band, which Don Everly joined after The Everly Brothers broke up. The Sundance Band became a fixture of the Los Angeles music scene and included musicians like Albert Lee, Buddy Emmons, John Hartford, Jeff Baxtor, and Pete Gavin. The group would often perform at the Sundance Saloon in rural Calabasas California and helped make this venue a hot spot for local musicians.

Another one of Coleman’s biggest collaborators was American singer/songwriter and musician Rocky Burnette. Coleman spent much of the 80s working with Burnette, he co-wrote Burnette’s debut 1979 album "Son of Rock 'n' Roll" and Burnette’s debut single "Tired of Toein' the Line" (1979). “Tired of Toein’ the Line” went on to become a Top 10 hit all around the world, reaching No. 8 on the pop charts in the U.S, becoming a No. 1 hit in Australia, peaking at No. 3 in South Africa, and reaching No. 58 in the UK. The song earned Burnette international fame and was his only hit single. Notable covers of the work include versions released by Ricky Nelson on his album Playing to Win (1981), and British singer Shakin' Stevens on his album A Whole Lotta Shaky (1988).

Ron Coleman continues to perform today, his current LA band includes Albert Lee, Wayne Durham, Tom Canning, John Molo, J.T. Thomas, and occasionally Rosie Flores. Coleman currently lives in California with his partner Deb and spends his time performing, fixing up cars, and with his friends and family.
